Kembang sungsang (Gloriosa superba L.): A potential plant as a source of biomutagens

چکیده

Gloriosa superba (Kembang Sungsang, local name) belongs to the monocotyledoneae class and Liliaceae family. This plant is known as a medicinal its pharmacological effects have been developed both traditional modern. All parts of superba, especially tubers seeds, contain alkaloids namely colchicine gloriosine. The content colchicides in other plants about 0.1 - 0.9% 0.8% respectively. Colchicine has strong affinity for tubulin so it often used biological studies breeding induce mutations that produce polyploidy individuals. mutagen develop superior properties some plants. Polyploidi several advantages including larger cells, higher plants, wider leaves, fruits, production, becoming more resistant disease. Considering role above, prospect source biomutagens (natural colchicine) needs be studied further developed.
